## How skills work

Each level gives **1 skill point**. You spend points in the skill tree of your class (or the General tree as a Human) to unlock **active skills** and **passives**. A skill needs the previous one of its chain at maximum level. Each skill level past the first adds **+15% power and −5% cooldown**.

- **Class trees**: about 12 skills per class, in 5 tiers (a tier costs as many points per level as its number).
- **Mage schools**: the Mage has several schools of magic (fire, ice, lightning, arcane, water, earth, void...). Some of them stay hidden until you place enough school points.
- **General tree**: open to every class; full for the Human.
- **System Arts**: skills of the [battle pass](/w/overrank/guides/battle-pass), for every class, no skill points needed.
- **Weapon arts**: the skill of a weapon, on key E: see [Weapon arts](/w/overrank/weapon-arts/overview).

## Reading a skill page

Each page lists the element, cooldown, mana cost, damage (a percentage of your physical or magic power) and how to unlock it. Cooldowns are base values: see [Combat formulas](/w/overrank/formulas/combat).

Some skills are **undiscovered**: their pages are blurred and ask for your help. If you find one, complete the page and remove the *Undiscovered* tag.
